Safety

Safety and rider requirements

Quad riding in the dunes is safe when the group rides together and the pace matches the terrain. Here is exactly what we expect from you, and what you can expect from us.

Rider requirements

Age

Drivers must be at least 16 years old. Passengers must be at least 5.

Licence

No driving licence is required for our guided tours.

Health

Tell us in advance about back problems, pregnancy or recent surgery so we can advise honestly.

No alcohol

Riders under the influence of alcohol or drugs cannot take part.

Helmets and quads prepared before a guided ride in Merzouga

Equipment we supply

  • A helmet for every driver and passenger, worn for the whole ride
  • Goggles during windy weather and sandstorms
  • Gloves in winter
  • Bottled water on every departure
  • Maintained quads checked before each tour

How we ride

  • Follow the guide's line — the sand he chooses is the sand that holds.
  • Keep a safe distance from the quad in front so you are never inside its dust.
  • Match your speed to visibility, terrain and your own ability, not to the rider beside you.
  • Stop when the guide stops, and never leave the group to explore alone.
  • If something feels wrong with your quad, raise a hand and we stop straight away.

What to wear

  • Closed shoes — trainers or boots, never sandals
  • Long trousers and a long-sleeved top for sun and sand
  • Sunglasses and sunscreen, and a scarf for your face
  • A warm layer for early mornings and winter evenings
